Sometimes my husband and I play a laughing game. We just start laughing, and we laugh for about a minute as hard as we can. The harder he laughs, the harder I laugh, and then that sets him off. It starts out a little forced, but surprisingly, by the end of the minute, we are both truly laughing and having a good time.
We started this after I heard somewhere that laughter, even forced laughter is good for you. There’s a good deal of research about the benefits of laughter. The Mayo clinic says laughter increases our intake of oxygen, stimulates organs, relieves stress, and increases endorphins — which trigger a positive feeling in the body. A study published on the National Institute for Health website says that jokes can even get you a promotion or a raise!
So, when my husband and I started talking about launching a business together, the idea that appealed to us the most was a joke website. We had been collecting somewhat sarcastic sayings for years and would toss them back and forth at each other when we wanted a laugh. We decided, “Let’s do it!”
And what better holiday to kick it off than Mother’s Day? Who needs a good laugh more than our tireless, over-extended, multi-tasking, dearly beloved moms.
